Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car While Standing in the Street

The community of Las Vegas is once again grieving after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in late October. Initial reports suggest that the fatally injured pedestrian was out in the roadway attempting to help a semitruck back out of an access road. The semitruck was attempting to get out near the very busy Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Sadly, a car was traveling down the road approaching the East Tropical Parkway at around 6:20 PM, the same time that the pedestrian was out in the roadway.

The 47-year-old California resident was struck by the vehicle. She was rushed to the nearby University Medical center where she succumbed to her injuries. According to authorities, the 41-year-old driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene. It seems the driver took all necessary precautions and was not impaired at the time of the crash. While it doesn’t appear that speeding or any infractions contributed to the crash, an investigation is ongoing.

Pedestrian Accidents in Vegas: A Rising Crisis

Unfortunately, fatal pedestrian accidents are on the rise in Las Vegas, and these accidents wreak havoc on the victim’s family member’s lives. Not only do the surviving family members and loved ones of the pedestrian have to deal with the excessive grief of unexpectedly losing their loved one, but they also have to cope with the financial losses associated with the accident. Here are just a few losses that are common after a fatal pedestrian accident:

  • Medical costs incurred prior to the passing
  • A loss of spousal support
  • A loss of parental support
  • A loss of consortium
  • Pain and suffering prior to the passing
  • Burial costs
  • End-of-life costs (debts, funeral, etc.)

Even when pedestrian accidents aren’t fatal, they can still result in serious, life-altering injuries. While nothing can take away the grief experienced after losing a loved one, it is possible to seek out financial justice after the accident in civil court.

If the accident was fatal, then it’s recommended that you consider filing a wrongful death lawsuit. If the accident caused a serious injury, then it might make sense to seek out a personal injury lawsuit.
